Over the past several weeks we have been
riveted to our seats. Tempers are flaring over the recent crisis that is raging
on our nation’s southern border. While attempting to remain as objective as
possible, I will aim to recap the situation and present evidence of how poorly
the federal government is handling this crisis.
The U.S. has
opened the opportunity to the American Dream for men, women and children
everywhere since its founding. Most of our ancestors came to this country
looking for a better life, often facing many adversities in their journeys of becoming
legal citizens, including facing troubles financially and linguistically.
While
thousands of immigrants still make their American Dream a reality following the
legal path to citizenship, there is an even larger number attempting to do so
by disregarding our immigration laws, whether intentionally or by being misinformed
of how the process works.
Today,
however, the U.S. is seemingly facing an invasion of illegal aliens who are no
longer seeping through tunnels, crawling through gaps in the fences or by
stowing away in vehicles, but rather by the White House allowing them entry
under the guise of ‘The Dream Act’, which promises amnesty, welfare, housing, education
and health insurance.[1]
Border Patrol
members are now being told to stand down and allow these immigrants entry.[2]
Those who do not comply are threatened with
termination, and those who speak to media are intimidated by threats of termination
and possibly imprisonment.[3]
The Department of Homeland Security is now busing these immigrants to states
all over the country, which taxpayers have to pay for. This is a threat to our
national security.
Both the mainstream media and countless
politicians have called this a ‘humanitarian crisis’, when in actuality it is a
national security crisis.[4]
Among these illegals crossing the southern border are those affiliated with
terrorists organizations and violent gangs, such as Drug Cartel members and members
of the notorious MS-13.[5]
Americans today are being told that it is
“offensive” to speak out against the government’s handling of the crises in the
name of “political correctness”, where politicians from both sides are
demanding we now use the term “undocumented Americans” instead of what they
truly are—illegal aliens.
In 2006, Congress voted on and approved
HR6061, which was then signed into law by President George W. Bush. This law
Authorized 700 miles of fence to be built along our Southern Border. As of
today, only 35 miles of that fence has been built. At a time when the country
is still experiencing a recession with millions of Americans out of work and
barely able to support their own families, we have a government encouraging the
influx of these foreigners who will continue to cause the economic collapse of
the nation, possibly even bringing in new diseases as recent reports have said.
These reports have stated that there is currently an epidemic of tuberculosis
coming into the country and that other ailments that have yet to be identified.
Unfortunately, while many homeless veterans
are living on the streets and surviving out of dumpsters, our politicians in
Washington are turning their shoulders to these brave men and women while displaying
bleeding hearts for those who broke our laws to get here.
President Ronald Reagan said it best when
he said “A country without borders is not a country.” While I am not against
immigration, I do not see how amnesty to those who disregarded our laws right
off the bat is doing our falling nation a favor.
